Beginner Guide

Platforms, release date, the core hunting loop, Standard vs Departure controls and a short roadmap for your first levels.

Monster Hunter Outlanders is the Capcom-licensed, TiMi Studio Group-developed mobile entry in the Monster Hunter series, launching globally on Oct 29, 2026 for iOS and Android (mainland China follows in 2027). The big change versus the console games: you play as a named Adventurer rather than a self-created hunter, and progression is built around gacha pulls.

Data status: written from official announcements, beta test reports and series knowledge. Anything the game has not confirmed yet is marked to be confirmed and will be filled in after launch on Oct 29, 2026. This is an unofficial fan guide, not affiliated with Capcom or TiMi Studio Group.
Step 1

Platform & release

  • Platforms: iOS and Android only. There is no official PC, console or emulator version.
  • Global launch: Oct 29, 2026 · mainland China: from 2027
  • Model: Free-to-play + gacha (gacha pulls for Adventurers)
Requirements

System requirements & pre-registration

  • iOS: iPhone XR or later, running iOS 17 or newer.
  • Android: Snapdragon 845 or equivalent or better, running Android 12.0 or newer.
  • Pre-registration reward: 20 Standard Contract + SR Raya — claimed in-game once the servers open.
  • Platforms: iOS and Android. There is no PC, console or official emulator build.

This baseline comes from the official closed beta recruitment notice, not the launch spec sheet — the developers have said they are still optimising to support more devices at launch, so treat it as the floor rather than the final word. Exact storage footprint and tablet / foldable support are not officially confirmed: third-party reports disagree widely, so check the store page for your region right before launch.

Step 2

The core hunting loop

Explore the seamless island of Aesoland → follow tracks and ecology clues → hunt a large monster → carve materials → forge weapons, armour and facilities → gear up and hunt something bigger. Same spine as the main series: farm materials, build gear, fight harder monsters.

Step 3

Controls: Standard vs Departure Mode

  • Standard Mode — closest to the mainline feel. One button triggers Hunting Arts combos. Higher skill ceiling.
  • Departure Mode — an assisted three-button scheme in the spirit of Street Fighter 6 Modern controls (react / attack / burst), with the system auto-guarding and countering for you.
  • Recommendation: start in Departure Mode if you are new to Monster Hunter, then switch to Standard once you can read monster tells and want the higher ceiling.
Step 4

Your first levels — a short roadmap

  1. Push the story until you unlock your first Adventurer and Buddy.
  2. Upgrade your starter weapon to the current cap (exact upgrade tree: to be confirmed).
  3. Hunt two or three large monsters by following ecology clues, and bank the basic materials.
  4. Unlock the building system and prioritise ziplines and lookout towers around your base — they save the most travel time.
  5. Claim the pre-registration rewards (20 Standard Contract + SR Raya) and do your first pulls.
Step 5

Who should you start with?

  • Weapon: ranged options (Bow, Heavy Bowgun) are the most forgiving; among melee, Long Sword and Dual Blades are the smoothest to learn.
  • Adventurer: Support-class picks (Arkaya with the Lance, Madelyn with the Bow) slot into any team. Playing solo? Check the tier list below.

See the weapon overview and the Adventurer overview for the full tables.

Step 6

Gacha at a glance (beta figures)

  • Pull currency: Standard Contract
  • Pity: around 90 pulls, with a 50/50 on the featured unit; duplicates convert into Insight for progression
  • Official positioning: the core content is clearable without spending; paid items lean cosmetic

Full numbers arrive with launch — see the Adventurer overview for what is confirmed so far.

Reroll

How to reroll at launch

  • What it is: rerolling means clearing the tutorial, spending your free pulls, and restarting with a throwaway account until the first pulls hit a target Adventurer.
  • Expected pattern: most mobile gachas tie the throwaway run to a guest / fresh account, then let you bind it to a real one afterwards.
  • Why it is worth it here: you start as your own Fated Adventurer, so the first pulls shape which weapon types feel good early.
  • Cost: each cycle is one full tutorial run — check how long that takes before you commit to a dozen attempts.

The exact button sequence (where the rebind lives, whether guest login exists, how many free pulls the tutorial grants) is not officially confirmed yet — this page will be rewritten from real launch-client steps the day the servers open.
